4. Committee Reports
a. Workshop Committee - Scott mentioned that we need to meet before our November meeting to discuss our first workshop for 2012. We still hope to hold the workshop during the first quarter of 2012. Possible workshop topics include GISP application, Record Retentions. Emily mentioned that she was approached with two ideas for URISA certified workshops and will bring them to the next workshop committee meeting.
b. Events Committee - Let Matt know about upcoming events, especially GIS Day activities, Regional User Group Meetings or Training Opportunities.
5. New Business
a. Chapter/National Agreement – Gene lead the discussion regarding the Chapter Affiliation Agreement proposed by URISA International. Patricia thought members get more out of their Chapter membership than their International membership. Pat also mentioned that she thinks URISA International needs to re-structure. Gene discussed some past services that URISA International provided our Ohio Chapter. A motion was passed and emailed to Darlene (at the GIS Pro Conference Chapter Leaders Forum) that read: “The Ohio Chapter of URISA members are not in favor of signing the Chapter Affiliation Agreement (CAA) as it is written now. We understand the need for a licensing fee with International but we have not had enough time to review the CAA. There are many unknowns as this point and we request time for review and comment before International passes the CAA.”
1st Motion = Bridget Simpson
2nd Motion = Patricia Moehring
6. GIS Conference 2011
a. Conference Debrief and Comments – Todd brought up that he would like to see increased student participation at next year’s conference. He mentioned having a separate Map Gallery competition for students. Patricia and Emily mentioned that CEAO has not been overly receptive to student rates in the past. Todd suggested that the Ohio Chapter of URISA sponsor students if CEAO would not. Patricia mentioned that it is important to get Professor’s involved and interested in the conference because they will likely recruit students to attend with them.
b. Conference Survey Results – Donovan provided a summary of the online Conference Survey that was sent out. Rated higher than last year were the following: Overall attendance (up 5%); Additional exhibitors (up 2); Private sector attendance (up 7%); New location and facility; Conference Duration (2 days); User Presentations; Registration (easier); Map Gallery; Tradeshow and Thursday night event. Rated lower than last year were the workshops.
c. Mark Yandrick said SWOGIS would like to thank Ohio Chapter of URISA for sponsorship of the Wednesday Night Event this year and SWOGIS would like to make this event an official part of the conference next year.
